Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about your dental care? Browse the answers below — and if you don't see what you're looking for, call us at (705) 291-2222. We're always happy to help.

General Questions

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes — we warmly welcome new patients of all ages. You do not need a referral. Simply call (705) 291-2222 or email info@cookstowndental.com to book your first appointment.

What are your hours?

We are open Monday through Thursday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. We are closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you have a dental emergency outside of office hours, call us and leave a message — we check messages regularly.

Where are you located?

We are located at 9 Queen St, Unit A, Cookstown, Ontario L0L 1L0. There is ample free parking directly on-site. We are a short drive from Barrie, Innisfil, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Alliston, and surrounding communities.

Do you take walk-in patients?

We recommend calling ahead whenever possible, but we do our best to accommodate urgent walk-in cases, particularly for dental emergencies. Call before coming in so we can prepare for your arrival.

Do you see children?

Absolutely. We love treating children and make every effort to create a positive, fear-free experience. We recommend the first dental visit around age 1, or when the first tooth comes in. Early visits help children feel comfortable with the dental office and set up healthy habits for life.

Insurance & Payment

Do you accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

Yes. We are proud to accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). If you qualify for CDCP coverage, please bring your eligibility information to your appointment and we will help coordinate your benefits.

What insurance plans do you accept?

We accept most major dental insurance providers in Canada. We recommend calling us before your appointment so we can verify your specific coverage. We submit insurance claims on your behalf to minimize the paperwork you have to deal with.

What if I don't have insurance?

No insurance is no problem. We offer transparent pricing and flexible payment options. We also work with iFinance to provide financing plans that spread the cost of treatment into manageable monthly payments. Ask us about your options during your consultation.

How much does a dental checkup cost?

Fees vary based on what is needed during your visit. We follow the Ontario Dental Association fee guide. If cost is a concern, speak with our front desk before your appointment — we will give you a clear estimate and discuss payment options so there are no surprises.

Pain-Free Dentistry & Anxiety

I am terrified of the dentist. Can you help?

Yes — this is something we take very seriously. Our practice uses the QuickSleeper computer-controlled anesthesia system, which virtually eliminates the discomfort of the injection itself. We also take time to explain every step, check in with you throughout the procedure, and never rush. Many previously anxious patients tell us they cannot believe how comfortable their appointments were.

What is the QuickSleeper?

The QuickSleeper is a motorized, pen-grip anesthesia delivery system that administers local anesthetic at a precisely controlled, ultra-slow rate — eliminating the burning and pressure caused by a fast manual injection. It also allows for intraosseous (IO) anesthesia, which targets the bone directly around the tooth for fast, complete numbness even in difficult cases. Over 25,000 dental professionals worldwide use this system, with a 98% patient efficacy rate. Learn more.

Will my face still be numb for hours?

With QuickSleeper's targeted delivery, most patients experience numbness only at the treated tooth and surrounding gum — not the whole side of their face. This wears off much faster than traditional nerve block injections. Most patients can eat and speak normally within an hour or two of their appointment.

Do you offer sedation dentistry?

Please call us to discuss sedation options. We can discuss what level of anxiety management is appropriate for your specific needs and planned procedure.

Dental Implants

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most healthy adults are candidates for dental implants. Ideal candidates have healthy gums and adequate jawbone density. Conditions like controlled diabetes, previous bone loss, or a history of smoking do not automatically disqualify you. The best way to know is a consultation — Dr. Khalid will review your imaging and give you an honest, thorough assessment.

How long do dental implants last?

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. The titanium post integrates permanently with your jawbone. The porcelain crown on top may eventually need replacement after 15–25 years due to normal wear — but the implant itself rarely needs to be replaced.

Does getting an implant hurt?

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is typically no more uncomfortable than a tooth extraction. Post-operative discomfort is usually mild and managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Most patients are surprised by how smooth the recovery is.

What is the difference between an implant and a bridge?

A bridge fills a gap by anchoring to the teeth on either side — which requires grinding those healthy teeth down. An implant stands alone, preserving all adjacent teeth and stimulating the jawbone to prevent bone loss. Implants are generally the superior long-term solution when candidates are suitable.
