Our General Dental Services

Preventive Care & Hygiene

The foundation of a healthy mouth is regular prevention. Our hygiene appointments include a thorough professional cleaning to remove tartar and plaque buildup your toothbrush can't reach, a comprehensive dental exam, digital X-rays when indicated, oral cancer screening, and personalized home care guidance. We recommend checkups every 6 months for most patients — but Dr. Khalid will advise the right frequency based on your individual needs.

Tooth-Coloured Fillings (Composite Restorations)

When decay is detected, we restore the tooth with modern composite resin — a tooth-coloured material that blends seamlessly with your natural tooth. Unlike old silver amalgam fillings, composite bonds directly to the tooth structure, requiring less removal of healthy tooth. It looks natural, feels natural, and is mercury-free.

Dental Crowns & Bridges

A crown (cap) is used to restore a tooth that is cracked, severely decayed, has a large old filling, or has had a root canal. It encases the entire visible tooth, restoring its strength, shape, and appearance. A bridge fills the gap left by a missing tooth by anchoring a prosthetic tooth to the crowns placed on adjacent teeth. Both are custom-fabricated for a natural fit and appearance.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canals have an undeserved reputation. Modern root canal therapy — especially with the QuickSleeper anesthesia system — is no more uncomfortable than getting a filling. When the pulp (nerve) inside a tooth becomes infected or inflamed, root canal treatment removes the infection, cleans and seals the canal, and saves the tooth. The alternative is extraction — and keeping your natural tooth is almost always the better long-term choice.

Tooth Extractions

When a tooth is too damaged to save, extraction is sometimes necessary. Dr. Khalid performs both simple and surgical extractions with precision and care. All extractions are performed under comfortable local anesthesia, and we discuss tooth replacement options (implants, bridges, or partial dentures) before the procedure so you always have a plan.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth can cause pain, crowding, infection, and damage to adjacent teeth. Dr. Khalid evaluates wisdom teeth with digital X-rays and 3D imaging to determine the best time and approach for removal. Many cases can be managed right at our Cookstown office.

Night Guards & Bruxism Treatment

Grinding and clenching your teeth at night (bruxism) is one of the most common — and most damaging — dental habits. It wears down enamel, cracks teeth, causes jaw pain, and leads to headaches. A custom-fitted night guard is the most effective way to protect your teeth while you sleep. We take precise impressions to create a guard that fits perfectly and is comfortable enough to wear every night.

Gum Disease Treatment (Periodontal Therapy)

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults — and the majority of cases are preventable. We screen for gum disease at every checkup. If detected, treatment may include deep cleaning (scaling and root planing), antimicrobial therapy, and more frequent hygiene appointments. Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy mouth.

Dentures & Partial Dentures

For patients who have lost multiple teeth, full or partial dentures restore function and appearance. We also offer implant-supported dentures for patients seeking a more stable, permanent solution. If you are currently unhappy with your dentures, ask Dr. Khalid about implant stabilization options.

Emergency Dentistry

Dental emergencies don't wait for a convenient time. If you have a severe toothache, broken tooth, lost crown, or dental injury, call us immediately at (705) 291-2222. We prioritize emergency appointments and will do everything possible to see you the same day.

Children's Dentistry

We love treating children and work hard to make dental visits something they look forward to — not fear. First visits are recommended around age 1 or when the first tooth appears. Early positive experiences set the foundation for a lifetime of good dental health. Our QuickSleeper system makes the injection experience virtually painless even for the smallest patients.

Pain-Free Dentistry — The QuickSleeper Difference

Every procedure requiring anesthesia at Cookstown Dental Centre is performed using the QuickSleeper computer-controlled injection system. This eliminates the burning, pressure, and discomfort of traditional needle injections, and virtually eliminates post-appointment numbness in your lips and tongue. If dental anxiety has been keeping you away, this changes everything. Learn more about QuickSleeper.
